Head Groundsperson

We are recruiting for a hands on Head Groundsperson who will support the Chairman with the smooth running of the 'Chalet' to enable him to focus on the business strategy

A busy, robust role with added benefit of being involved in all aspects of the grounds maintenance and events at the 'Chalet'.

Summary of Key Activities:

* To carry out general repairs and maintenance as directed to maintain the standards of the interior and exterior of the property.
* To keep all grounds machinery maintained to a high standard ensuring repairs and servicing take place with the relevant provider in a timely manner
* Ensure the pump and watering systems for irrigation and the pond are regularly maintained and that they operate efficiently. Organise repairs and servicing as necessary.
* Order supplies and materials required for grounds maintenance plus purchase or hire of equipment ensuring that the most competitive rates are obtained at all times.
* Employ contractors or obtain outside tenders for any work outside own remit as required.
* Drive the Chairman to functions as required. This is to include evenings and weekends. Always drive safely and within the law following the Highway Code.
* Ensure all vehicles are maintained to a high standard. Regular cleaning, re-fuelling and ensuring they are stocked at all times with water, tissues etc. Advise the EA of any issues with the vehicles that need resolving as soon as they arise.
* Carry out all general works to the grounds including fairways and greens cutting, irrigation and landscaping.
* Ensure a high standard of maintenance on the greens and fairways, treating with the appropriate chemicals, feed and seed as required. Keep up to date with information on treatments and processes.
* Management of keeping the Chalet formal gardens tidy.
* Regular maintenance of Head Office grass and pond (using external contractor for the pond where required).
* Ensure appropriate procurement of general tools and consumables to meet the requirements of the role (excluding chemicals, fertilisers and grass seed). including chemicals, fertilisers and grass seed
* Have good communication with all on site employees and external contractors in order to complete assigned tasks.
* Assist with events at The Chalet where required, e.g. National Garden Open Days family functions
* Adhere to Health and Safety regulations at all times to ensure a safe working environment for self and others.

This is a weather determined role so we propose 6 days a week in the summer and then 4 days a week within the winter periods. This role would also include the upkeep and maintenace of an 18 hole golf course

The Candidate: For the role of Groundsperson you will be a friendly, proactive, dedicated and forward-thinking individual. You will be flexible, hands on, a good team worker, possessing excellent organisational skills and be physically able to perform the role ensuring that all seasonal tasks are completed within time scales, plus urgent requests are accommodated as they occur. You will need to live within a commutable distance to Caterham and hold a full driving licence. Mechanical knowledge is also advantageous as is an outstanding work ethic.
