Summary of Key Activities:

1) Understands the Customer – Anticipates how the brands core customer and their needs might

change in the future. Brand Awareness – contributes to development of buying and merch strategy

and take responsibility for getting involved. Regarded as a sounding board by senior management.

Understands national and global markets and their impact on the brand.

2) Commercial awareness – sees the ‘big picture’ and shows appreciation of the wider business and

acts accordingly. Uses knowledge of economic and social trends and make recommendations to

senior management. Works on brand projects as required. Develops product – Proposes brand and

product development outside own department, discusses ways to potentialise and presents to senior

team. Spots any inconsistencies across departments that impact the brand and acts accordingly.

Profit – runs projects cross functionally to drive profit, and generates ideas for brand strategy to

increase profit.

3) Builds the range, Displays in depth understanding of merchandising, using and monitoring all

financial tools available, challenging where appropriate. Forsee’s future changes in trend/ trading

patterns. Takes a long term view when planning, balancing short term trading with long term goals.

Contributes to the strategic vision and plans for the brand.

4) Proposes ideas for projects / promotions and follows them through. Takes a balanced view trading

long term and short term goals. Trouble shoots and identifies problems, revises plans and acts promptly

to reach conclusions.

5) Supplier Management – Contributes to brand supplier strategy. Ensures team is aware of the

advantages of a broad supply base to enable them to trade effectively. Maximise contribution from

technologist, using their expertise to keep ahead of the competition. Strives to improve product quality

at all times developing and sourcing new procedures.

6) Gathers and analyses information – reviews competitors businesses and suggests actions to gain advantage. Challenges current information and seeks new ways to source. Thinks strategically and looks for long term views. Proactively makes suggestions to take the brand forward. Supports their manger in decision making. Makes decision with brand in mind.

7) Plans and prioritises time to support other teams as well as own. Manages balance between brand work and department. Manages self – known for adding value to the brand, challenges the way forward for buying and brand. Develops self – Proactively seeks new opportunities for development to deepen and broaden experience beyond the immediate job role.

8) Provides leadership – confidently communicated vision for brand and links it to that of the department. Provides leadership to colleagues included non direct reports. Deputises for HOB. Identifies training needs across function. Contributes ideas and time to develop the skills of the buying and merchandising team as whole. Identifies people with greater potential and is prepared to champion them. Initiates function team building opportunities, brain storming session and away days.

9) Acts as a communication link between management and other functions and peers. Influences senior management, challenging their views and adding value to their thinking by offering new ideas and solutions. Positively challenges piers to get better results, listens to others view and perspectives with interest.

10) Take responsibility for own development, learning through observing and effective communication with the team. Always has a positive attitude

11) Stakeholder communication – communicate effectively with all internal and external stakeholders. Making sure you show awareness of the operational effect and impact of our decisions on other areas of the business and communicate accordingly.
